Deux sur trois

Je continue ma visite des pays baltes avec la Lettonie, que je n'aurai pas beaucoup vu puisque je ne suis même pas resté trois jours, le temps de la traverser du sud au nord. J'hésitais à me diriger ensuite vers Pskov à l'est en Russie en ne passant que par un petit coin de l'Estonie, mais un examen approfondi de la carte m'a convaincu de continuer vers le nord :

1. En Russie entre les grandes villes, il y a... rien ou presque. Et j'ai déjà beaucoup de "rien" prévu sur les 1300 km reliant St-Petersburg et Murmansk.

2. En continuant tout droit vers le nord, j'arrive exactement sur le point culminant des pays baltes (Suur Munamägi, 318 mètres) et sa tour panoramique, que je ne peux décemment pas louper. En effet, si dans une ville il y a par exemple une Tour Eiffel, un Empire State Building, une CN Tower, une Cathedral of Learning, ou une N Seoul Tower, c'est toujours l'endroit que j'ai le plus envie de voir.

I'm going further with the visit of the Baltic states with Latvia, that I haven't seen that much as less than three days were needed to cross it from south to north. I was thinking about heading east directly to Pskov in Russia, passing only through a small corner of Estonia, but studying the map convinced me to continue to the north:

1. In Russia between the big cities, there is... nothing or almost nothing. And I already have plenty of 'nothing' planed for the 1300 km between St-Petersburg and Murmansk.

2. Keeping on riding north I arrive exactly on the highest peak of the Baltic states (Suur Munamägi, 318 meters) and its panoramic tower, which I cannot reasonably miss. Indeed, if in a city there is an Eiffel Tower, an Empire State Building, a CN tower, a Cathedral of Learning, or an N Seoul Tower, it's always the sight that I most want to see.

Hier je pensais rester toute la journée sur des routes principales comme la P37...

Yesterday I thought I would stay the whole day on main roads like the P37...

...jusqu'à ce que je tombe sur un itinéraire pour vélo signalisé qui m'a guidé vers quelques sites intéressants...

...until I found a signed bicycle road that led me to a few interesting sights...

...et vers des routes plus agréables, à travers la forêt.
...and to some more pleasant roads, through the forest.

Si en Lituanie je voyais beaucoup de vieilles maisons en bois, en Lettonie c'est plutôt les anciennes constructions en pierre, parfois en ruine, qui attirent mon attention.

Whereas in Lithuania I saw plenty of old wooden houses, in Latvia I encountered more old stone constructions and ruins.
